Special Performances

54 Below Sings
BIG RIVER

Garrett was thoroughly honored to be invited to participate in this historic event celebrating the music of BIG RIVER, as well as the two Broadway productions, including the Deaf West 2003 revival that Garrett starred in. Performing along with old friends such as Daniel Jenkins and Michael McElroy, he made new ones including original stars Marin Mazzie and Jennifer Leigh Warren.

A Night of Broadway Stars
at Lincoln Center

Garrett's friend, Jeff Calhoun, who directed him as Huck in the Deaf West Broadway production of BIG RIVER, produced and directed this benefit for Covenant House at Lincoln Center. Performing that old standard, "Worlds Apart," with Daniel Jenkins and Michael McElroy, Garrett shared the stage with other Broadway performers such as Audra McDonald, Stephanie J. Block, Gregory Hines, Adam Jacobs (ALADDIN), Billy Porter (KINKY BOOTS), Capathia Jenkins (CAROLINE, OR CHANGE), Jeremy Jordan (NEWSIES), Laura Osnes (BANDSTAND), and Keala Settle (WAITRESS, The Greatest Showman).

BIG RIVER
gala performance

A decade after they did the national Broadway tour of BIG RIVER, Daniel Jenkins, Michael McElroy, and Garrett performed "Worlds Apart" for the Lexington fundraising gala honoring Ralph Lauren. An added bonus was that Jeff Calhoun, the original director, was there to re-stage it. It was beyond wonderful having the old team together again, just like old times. (Except, this time around, Huck was a ginger.)

Honest Accomplice

I first met Maggie Keenan-Bolger (of the Keenan-Bolger dynasty) through the Point Foundation, of which we are both alums. As theatre artists who try to create change and bring attention to oppressed minorities, we instantly clicked. What really cemented the deal was that we're both short - although Maggie has me beat in that division - and have played murderers on television. Meanwhile, Garrett has been fortunate enough to participate in readings of original plays that Maggie created in collaboration with marginalized LGBT youth and then produced through her theatre company.
